One Woman
We all have loves in our lives that come and go. When they arrive, it's forever. They leave, it was just a season. Some short, others leaving more indelible marks.
For all of the pasts we move through, they all become the sum. Every second can only be spent focused on one, then both are a memory, the time and the taste, scent, feeling, an amalgam.
She flows through my life,
Shadows dancing, edges touching, never merging,
Backlit by time, paid for with passion,
Recompense for other dreams, unfulfilled.
Every kiss a sensation, received with
Delicious grace, delightfully tasted.
Each Sunset fading gracefully away
Melting memories into my life.
I love you, I said, and I do.
I did love you before we met -
The vision I had of that leafy willow tree,
Little boy's dreams of sought after unconditional love.
Every love story a season
Spring, growth, excitement
Summer, wet warmth blanketing each other
Fall, watching old growth lose it's moisture
Winter chill frostbiting the future we imagined.
Lessons come, lessons go.
Smooth river rocks, water passing over
Taking little bits of our lives, dissolving into each other
Filling cracks and crevasses in untouched parts,
With wisdom, we pause, move on.
