Snow Birds

The winters come and go and we live through the death and rebirth of the world around us and within.

Sometimes we're with a loved one

Sometimes we're alone

We become grateful for the journey and look upon time's passing as inevitable, bittersweet joy, longing and memorable, loving experiences.

snowbirds' calls

twilight falls

white skies, blue, crisp nights cool, through and through

time whispers, reminding me of you

shadows across the fallen snow

yellow from firelights' glow

shining through an open door

sharing the night and nothing more

sharp cold thoughts clouding reason

last words spoken, out of season

love's lost but not forlorn

well traveled walk through night 'till morn

i cast my shadow upon the path

first step, last, against winter's wrath

to reach the point we were last

before the fall came and past

I know not now which God has taken

my dearest one, I've not forsaken

while drifts pile high against the walls

i won't forget the snowbirds' calls

we watched them here last year, past

while something took you not so fast

so winter's chill brings me here

to remind me of our love, my dear

warm sun rises, caresses my face

for you, for us I remember this place

where once we shared a season's race

from dawn till dusk we passed, without a trace.

the seasons cycle, one by one

we loved a daughter, then our son

they love you still, as do I

still, in a moment's tear we cry

while we can't know how life will end

though we know it will begin again

for now we part and say goodbye

as I watch the last snowbird fly.
